Summary of North East Lincolnshire’s Vision
North East Lincolnshire is engaging with emerging opportunities around low carbon technology, renewable energy and other critical areas of investment such as skills, infrastructure and housing. The area direct access to the world’s biggest offshore wind farms with significant opportunities for investment and growth in both offshore and onshore renewable energy. As a functional economic area, North East Lincolnshire already contains some of the UK’s busiest ports and logistics infrastructure. It is the centre of a major concentration of process industries and a huge array of successful business drawn from a variety of sectors.
The emergence of the renewables sector in the North East Lincolnshire area provides an immediate opportunity not only to build a stronger economy and help make the shift toward lower carbon fuels, but also to deliver wider economic and social benefits and to build stronger, more thriving communities.
To achieve its ambition to be the UK capital of the renewable energy industry, North East Lincolnshire Council has set out the following goals for the area:
- To become a renowned centre of excellence and be at the forefront of the UK renewables industry.
- To establish world class learning, training and research facilities for the energy and renewables sector.
- To build a highly-skilled economy based on advanced energy technologies, upskilling the local workforce, attracting well-paid jobs and offering stable employment prospects for local people.
